# Kinetic · Kayaking & rafting: sources and verification notes

All checks done **3 Oct 2026 (IST)**. "Verified" means the official page was loaded and the stated fact was read on it, unless noted otherwise. The page deliberately shows **no prices or fees**. Operator pages (Red Chilli Adventure, Sea Hawk Adventures) and the Uttarakhand rules show prices, fees or fines in rupees; none are reproduced.

## 1. Physics (chapters, quiz, River Lab)

| Claim | Basis |
|---|---|
| Continuity Q = A·v (40 m × 2 m × 1.5 m/s = 120 m³/s; 20 m chute → 3 m/s) | Standard fluid mechanics (computed) |
| Drag F = ½ρCdAv² with CdA ≈ 0.5 m² (1 → 250 N, 1.5 → 563 N, 2 → 1,000 N, 3 → 2,250 N) | Computed; CdA is an **illustrative teaching value**, labelled on page |
| Buoyancy of 7 L foam (69 N), aerated water at 30% air (48 N) | Archimedes (computed); 7 L and 30% are **illustrative**, labelled |
| Life jackets rated in newtons of buoyancy; cold shock gasp reflex; foot entrapment; defensive swimming position; strainers, undercuts, holes, low-head dams; high-siding; hip snap and roll | General whitewater-safety knowledge (**not fetched**) |
| Ferry glide sin θ = v/b (1.5/2 → 48.6°, 1.32 m/s, 30.2 s for 40 m; straight across → 30 m drift; raft at 1.2 m/s → 50 m) | Vector addition (computed); boat speeds **illustrative** |
| v = √(2gh) at a drop (0.5 m 3.1, 1 m 4.4, 2 m 6.3 m/s) | Kinematics (computed) |
| High-siding torque 6 × 70 kg × 9.81 × 1.5 m ≈ 6.2 kN·m | Computed, illustrative |
| River power ρgQΔh (100 m³/s × 2 m ≈ 2 MW); paddler sustains a few hundred watts | Computed / general knowledge (**not fetched**) |
| International Scale of River Difficulty: not exact; extra margin for cold, high or remote water; difficulty changes with level | https://www.americanwhitewater.org/explore/safety/international-scale-of-river-difficulty/ — loaded. **The class-by-class wording (I–VI) on our page is a paraphrase from general knowledge**; the class descriptions sit in a PDF/expandable section our checker did not read |

## 2. Governing bodies and regulators

## 4. Not verified / left off

- **Zanskar season:** only commercial sites give June–September; the page says to confirm with operators.
- **National Institute of Water Sports, Goa** (niws.nic.in): connection closed / HTTP 500 to every fetcher, so its kayaking courses are **not listed**.
- The earlier "Kolad kayaking" card was replaced by ABVIMAS: the Kolad source only says operators also offer kayaking, not instruction.
- **IKCA national championships:** couldn't verify (IKCA site suspended).
- A separate "Indian Rafting Foundation" appears in search snippets as a World Rafting member; the worldrafting.com India page returned 404, so it's **not listed**.
